What is that joyfulness?

People think, "I can enjoy this material world very nicely. Everyone is having such a good time. There is no reason I can't enjoy myself as much as they." This idea is illusion because there is no real enjoyment in the material world. We may be very good-looking, famous, well educated, wealthy and powerful, and we may have a very beautiful wife and children and hold the highest position in the country—but at any moment we are subject to be shot down. This is the nature of this world. There is no question of having pleasure without impediments. Even when the pleasures are earned after a great deal of struggle and sacrifice, they are temporary. In this material world there is no pleasure that can give us constant and unending enjoyment. One has to understand he is not the material body. Then one immediately becomes joyful. Just like if you are implicated in some undesirable affair and your lawyer advises, "Oh, you are free from this implication. The law does not bind you," you feel pleasure, "Oh, I'm free from this implication?" "Yes," similarly, as soon as one is convinced that "I am not this material body," then immediately he becomes joyful. What is that joyfulness? There is no hankering, no lamentation. Only Krishna can give us that. Therefore Krishna instructs in Bhagavad-gita that it is the welfare of every living entity to give up this material activity and just surrender unto Him, He will give protection from all sinful reactions. Unfortunately, people are so attracted by the glitter of material nature that they cannot do it. People always fear that by surrendering to Krishna they will lose something but Krishna is so kind that if He takes anything away, He will reward us a thousand-fold.

Time is up, you must get out

Physical body is my outward dress. Just like your coat, if it becomes old enough, there is no more possibility to use it. You have to throw it away. You have to take another coat. Similarly, I am spirit soul. When my physical body is old enough, useless, then I will have to give it up and accept another new body. I do not die after the annihilation of this body. But why I am forced to accept another body, which will be annihilated? Modern technologists are thinking that possessing big building, few cars and nice bank balance is perfection of life. But suppose you get very nice amenities still there is every possibility that as soon as you prepare all these things, you have to go away immediately, death. There is no guarantee that "After finishing this job, I shall be able to enjoy these things." We may be crying, "Doctor, can you give me at least four years to live? I had a plan to finish." What the doctor can do? "Now your time is up. You must get out." So this labor for creating nice amenities is futile because I could not enjoy it. If there is no guarantee of enjoying what you are creating, then where is the perfection? That is the problem. The technology to solve this problem is unknown all over the world. Therefore God comes, to give you the information that "You are not this body. You are spirit soul. And because you are within this body, you are suffering so many distresses." Therefore right conclusion is that if somehow or other, I can live without this body, then my distresses are over.

Material solution means ‘another problem’

This human form of life should be utilized how to make a solution of the problem. That is Vedic civilization. They stress more on the solution of the problems, not to create problems. The solution of problem in human life is how to stop death. For example, we have made a horseless carriage motorcar, that is advancement but it is not the solution of the problem. I don't consider that although I have got car, still, I have to waste so much time. Now the problem is where to park and how to drive. They are increasing roads, one after another. Still, the problem is not solved, somewhere you'll find bottleneck. Formerly, horses were drawing carriages and there was no air pollution. And there is every possibility of accidents. If you did not discover these aero plane and motorcar, then death would not have been so easy. You could live at least for some days. It must run on petrol and they are crying, "Where is petrol? Where is petrol?" If God does not supply petrol, then all these horseless carriages will be pieces of tin. That's all. We are trying to solve the problem in one way, and the problem is becoming more dangerous and difficult by the laws of nature. This is because we do not know what is the ultimate goal of life. We are missing the real point. People are trying to control over the laws of material nature. That is impossible. Therefore Vedic literature says that "Do not waste your time in that way. Better you utilize your valuable time to understand Krishna. Then your life is successful." Our life is not meant for creating problems and solving problems. Our life is meant for understanding God. Then everything is all right. But that you havse given up.

Significance of Independence Day

The significance of the Independence Day in the existence of a nation is of greater value. The day is much more than merely celebrating the anniversary of India’s free statehood. On this day India attained a major part of Asian subcontinent’s 562 extensively spread territories besides British owned states.

15th August 1947 symbolizes the victory of Indian patriotism which the nation got after uncertain yet brutal struggle from the repression of the British colonialism. The British, who oppressed India for centuries had primarily arrived to initiate business but steadily captured the entire government of the nation. They educated the Indians and in the process generated enthusiasts who weren’t hesitant in helping them expanding their regime.

Men and women from all over India joined hands and fought for India’s freedom. Many were acclaimed while others contribution went unnoticed. However, praise wasn’t what they desired for. It was the dream of free and autonomous India which motivated them to walk the path of struggle unselfishly. Neither did they battle for their region nor for their natives, but for India and Indians.
